2006 Logie Nominations Revealed "Erinsborough News", BBCi, February 2006
2006 looks set to be another good year for Neighbours at the Logies, Australia's biggest television award ceremony.
Although the awards won't be given out until May, this month the voting starts to see which talented actors and actresses will make it on to the nomination shortlist. Unsurprisingly, Neighbours has several stars in the running.
All eyes will be on hot newcomers Pippa Black (Elle) and Dan O'Connor (Ned). They're both currently nominated in the Most Popular New Talent categories… and insiders reckon they're in with a good chance of taking a prestigious award home.
In the Most Popular Actress category it's a battle of the babes as Natalie Bassingthwaighte (Izzy), Natalie Blair (Carmella), Carla Bonner (Steph), Stephanie McIntosh (Sky) and Jackie Woodburne (Susan) go head to head.
Meanwhile the Most Popular Actor field is even more crowded. Thankfully Patrick Harvey (Connor), Blair McDonough (Stu) and Ryan Moloney (Toadie) all receive a mention; otherwise there might have been some tension in the House of Trouser.
Last year Ben Nicholas (Stingray) narrowly missed out on the Most Popular New Male Talent award. This year he could get the chance to put that disappointment behind him with a Most Popular Actor nomination, although he faces stiff competition from his older colleagues, Stefan Dennis (Paul), Alan Fletcher (Karl), and Ian Smith (Harold).
Finally, the show itself is nominated for Most Popular Australian Drama. Now it's up to the Australian public, who have a month to cast their preliminary votes. On April 3rd the final nominations will be announced.
Neighbours has a strong tradition at the Logies. In 2005 the show was inducted into the Hall of Fame, a tribute to the its phenomenal success in its 20th anniversary year. Natalie Blair also won the coveted Most Popular New Female Talent award. However, former Ramsay Street resident Kylie Minogue (Charlene) still holds the record for youngest ever Gold Logie winner, she was just 19 when she won in 1988.
We'll be keeping our fingers crossed.
