A Wrap for Charity by Jenny Cooney Carrillo

TV Week, Australia, 22nd October 2005

National Bandana Day happens again this year on October 28 and the cast of Neighbours are right behind the worthy cause. Money raised from the sale of each brightly coloured bandana will go to CanTeen, a charity set up to help young people with cancer.

For Damien Bodie, the chance to sport a cool camouflage bandana on set was the perfect opportunity to publicly support a charity that's long been close to his heart. "Many years ago, when I was in grade nine, I wore one of those bandanas to school and I was the only one. I don't think anyone really knew about it," he explains. "Everyone was asking me, 'What's the bandana for?' I was like, 'It's for CanTeen.' And it's such a fantastic cause!"

National Bandana Day has been going now for 11 years, raising much-needed funds for the organisation's support network. "I have been very fortunate not to have anyone close to me be affected by cancer," Damien explains, "but it's a fantastic cause. They do great things: the camps and the weekends, the peer-support program, the educational workshops - it's all great."

To show your support, buy a bandanna on October 28. Log onto www.canteen.org.au for more details.
