Double Act's No Joke for Ben by Fiona Byrne Herald Sun, Melbourne, Australia, 8th November 2005
At only 17, Neighbours actor Ben Nicholas has already been nominated for a Logie. And while he pours most of his energy into his role as Scott "Stingray" Timmins on the popular soap, what's left over is used to study for his VCE exams.
Ben has been juggling school with his Neighbours schedule since he began filming in 2003, and was this year nominated for the most popular new talent - male Logie, but lost to Home And Away's Chris Hemsworth.
He has taken on two Year 12 subjects this year - Australian history and Media - and will complete VCE next year with English, International politics and Dance. "Sometimes I am on set for 12 hours a day and it is hard to study there because it's so distracting," said Ben, from Templestowe. But he tries to make it to school - Carey Baptist Grammar in Kew - at least one day a week. "It is really hard to study, and a lot of it relies on my time management," said Ben, who also regularly squeezes in performances for dance agency Centrestage. Ben has had help from some of the Neighbours cast, who appeared on his media studies short film.
