Scott's First Day

"Erinsborough News", BBCi, June 2004

Scott reaches a personal milestone when he has his first day at Erinsborough High.

Under the watchful eye of Susan, Sky, Serena and Boyd, Scott faces his fears about school and actually enjoys himself.

Ben Nicholas, who plays Scott, described how Scott was feeling on his first day at Erinsborough High.

"Scott's very nervous about his first day at school, because he'd been to school back in Colac where he is from and he failed at it abysmally. He had trouble making friends and concentrating due to the ADHD."

Most of the day goes well for Scott, but he did embarrass himself a couple of times as Ben explained,

"He makes a bit of a fool of himself, because he is so nervous. He warms up to it. He's definitely not dumb. He's quite smart, he just find that he can't concentrate."

Scott's ADHD amuses his classmates, but Scott does his best to rise above it.

"He gets there and tries to swing onto a chair and falls off it," he said. "As he has ADHD, he taps all of the time and he can't control himself. Everyone laughs at him, because he just can't stop tapping. So, that's a bit upsetting for him."

Ben could sympathise with his onscreen character as he also started a new school recently.

"When I moved to Melbourne, I went to Carey Grammar," Ben said. "I was pretty nervous about it, but at the beginning of the year they had a camp that everyone went to so they can get to know each other, so I knew a few people. There were also a few other performing arts people that I knew before going to the school, so I hung out with them."
